Different Ways To Tie A Necktie
If you are new to neckties also referred to as ties then you may have to learn how to tie a necktie. Some men apparently never learn to tie one and others find they love to wear neckties so learn exactly how to tie them in all of the know variations. It is said that there are over fifty ways to tie the knots but it is generally acknowledged that there are five classic tie knots, some a variation of another.
How to Tie a Necktie and the Different Knots
The first of these five classic knots is called the Windsor which is a wide triangular knot and is considered more formal and best with a cut away collar on the shirt. Another version is a half Windsor which as a slightly smaller triangular shaped knot. If you plan to learn how to tie a necktie with this knot you may have to practice a lot to make it come out looking good and plump with that dimple just underneath the knot and with even tie tails or tie ends meeting exactly at the tie bottom.
Small Knot
This is a knot meant for a thick tie fabric like woven silk or heavy woven cotton. It is also meant for shirts with closer collar ends.
Four in Hand
This is considered a fairly easy knot and you can learn how to tie a necktie with this knot fairly quick. Although you may still have to practice to make the knot look good and the tie tail ends even at the bottom. Also every tie should lie nicely under the collar without the collar rucked up or rumpled.
Prince Albert
This is not as common a knot. It is a more compact knot which works well with a dress shirt with longer collar points. This knot works best with the narrower ties and thinner fabrics like a finer polyester or very thin cotton.
Tie Size
Ties generally are not sized however there is a category of ties called long ties which are over 57 inches long. When a tie is hanging it should just reach the middle of belt. Ties used to be shorter and when men wore vests the ties were not supposed to hang below the vest bottom so they were generally 48 inches long. When you learn how to tie a necktie properly you will looked perfectly groomed and spiffy.
