Facts On Leprechaun Mythology

Leprechauns, they’re one of the biggest symbols of St. Pattie’s day. Whether it’s because they’re just that Irish or because they’re just that awesome, there’s a lot more to our little green clad friends than what you would think. As a matter of fact, leprechauns are quite interesting!

Occupation of a Leprechaun

So you’re wondering—what exactly do leprechauns do for a living? Are they like their well-meaning cousins the brownie, who faithfully cleans your home in exchange for a bowl of warm, delicious milk? Or are they more like the ever-screaming banshee? The answer is: somewhere in between. They make shoes. This is a pretty cool job, although we aren’t too sure that the leprechauns plan on popping out any Nikes anytime soon.

Leprechaun Fashion

So what exactly do these little guys (and possibly gals) wear? There’s got to be a bit more to that… Well, in this case, you’re right. Leprechauns wear—traditionally—either green or red and they wear shoes with buckles and breeches that are either black or green or red, depending on what they feel like. It is also said that it depends on the region in which the leprechaun originates.

Leprechaun Habits

Another reason that leprechauns might be associated with St. Patrick’s day is their love of a good brew. When a leprechaun is drinking, he is instead called a clurichaun, although some state that they are cousins instead. Leprechauns are also fond of hiding their gold at the end of the rainbow. If you catch a leprechaun, you are also given three wishes in exchange for his release.

Leprechauns Gardening

If you’re wondering about a leprechaun’s gardening habits, it would be safe to assume that clover or, rather, shamrocks, were high up on the list. Keep in mind that a shamrock is a particular piece of clover that is rarely found, but that leprechauns can quickly cultivate.

Looks of a Leprechaun

As far as appearance goes, you have to understand that not every leprechaun is your typical fiery redhead. As a matter of fact, you also have dark haired and golden haired leprechauns. The gingers are a bit easier to spot among the clover, which is the primary reason that they hold so much recognition. However, if you see a leprechaun, there is a higher chance of him being an older leprechaun. The reason being that he’s not quite as fast as the younger specimens.

Lifestyle of a Leprechaun

Leprechauns are generally loners who have no intention of harming humans. They’re kind of like deer, however. They’re nice to look at, but leave the poor things alone! On the other hand, there are a few slightly more outgoing leprechauns who have gladly adopted human families.
